How to Make Your Online Dating Profile Stand out From the Crowd
At this point, maladjusted nerds and perpetually single woman are such tired tropes that we can recite the script by heart. Misunderstandings enter stage left, mistakes exit stage right, and humiliation stubbornly stays center stage with a limelight on, just to make sure you saw it. On paper, The IT Crowd is guilty of all these things.
In practice though, it usually has a self-awareness that keeps its worn premises from actually wearing thin. It could have been yet another storyline about those women and their cah- razy addiction to fashion, but it turns the corner into parody by letting everyone else in on the joke and taking it to the absolute extreme. The IT Crowd never has more fun than when it presents a completely routine sitcom premise, lets you get disappointed, and then smashes its foot down on the gas pedal.

Anyone who’s been doing the online dating thing for a while knows that there’s hookup culture and then there’s long-term relationship dating culture. But what if you’re looking for a serious relationship or even something long-term? What if you just don’t want to be alone on Valentine’s Day ever again? A study cited in the MIT Technology Review found that people who meet online are more likely to be compatible and have a higher chance of a healthy marriage if they decide to get hitched. If marriage is your goal, you’ll be glad to know that another recent study found that heterosexual couples who met online were quicker to tie the knot than couples who met offline.
Either way, online dating seems to be a good recipe for a satisfying, long-term relationship whether it involves marriage or not.

This article is reprinted by permission from NextAvenue. I was newly single and back in Chicago. I was older and hopefully wiser. And I wanted to meet people, so I turned to internet dating as a way to meet eligible women. Over the course of several months of online dating, I discovered that the pool of available older women is vast and diverse as is true of men, although perhaps to a lesser extent and that with a little effort, a reasonably intelligent, halfway-presentable person can usually generate some interest on dating websites.

Three series have been produced to date, and a fourth series was announced in March It focuses on the shenanigans of the three-strong IT support team located in a dingy, untidy and unkempt basement — a stark contrast to the shining modern architecture and stunning London views enjoyed by the rest of the organisation. The obscurity surrounding what the company does serves as a running gag throughout the series — all that is known is that the company bought and sold ITV a fact which Denholm Reynholm forgot completely, and once made part-year profits of “eighteen hundred billion billion”.
The team consists of what Douglas Reynholm describes as “a dynamic go-getter Jen , a genius Moss and a man from Ireland Roy “. Moss and Roy, the two technicians, are portrayed as socially inept geeks or, in Denholm Reynholm’s words, “standard nerds”. Despite the company’s dependence on their services, they are despised, ignored, and considered losers by the rest of the staff. Roy’s exasperation is reflected in his support techniques of ignoring the phone in the hope it will stop ringing, and using reel-to-reel tape recordings of stock IT suggestions ” Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Moss’s wide and intricate knowledge of all things technical is reflected in his extremely accurate yet utterly indecipherable suggestions, while demonstrating a complete inability to deal with practical problems like extinguishing fires and removing spiders. Jen, the newest member of the team, is hopelessly non-technical, despite claiming on her CV that she has “a lot of experience with computers”.
As Denholm, the company boss, is equally tech-illiterate, he’s convinced by Jen’s interview bluffing and appoints her head of the IT department. Her official title is “relationship manager”, yet her attempts at bridging the gulf between the technicians and the business generally have the opposite effect, landing Jen in situations just as ludicrous as those of her team-mates.
The first series of six episodes was produced and recorded in front of a live audience at Teddington Studios and series 2 and 3 were shot at Pinewood Studios.
